MN Stay at Home Information
As many of you have heard today, March 25, 2020, Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz has executed a Executive Order directing Minnesotans to stay at home effective Friday, March 27, 2020 at 11:59 pm through Friday, April 10, 2020 at 5:00 pm. A copy of this Order is posted on our Facebook page as well.
Exemptions for Critical Sectors, as it relates to Construction and Critical Trades.
Construction and critical trades. This category includes workers in the skilled trades such as electricians, plumbers, HVAC and elevator technicians, and other related construction of all kind. this category also includes exterminators, cleaning and janitorial staff for commercial and governmental properties, moving and relocation services, security staff, operating engineers, and all other service providers who provide services that are necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of homes and residences and the Critical Sectors listed in this Executive Order.
What does this mean for Local 539 members?
We are skilled trades and would fall under the exemption of the order.
What should you do if your job site is shut down or if your employer doesn’t have work for you?
Apply for your unemployment benefit. You will not be required to sign the list
if your employer intends on putting you back to work once the job site
What should you do if your job site is open?
We would expect you to go to work as normal. If you are unable to go to work
for any reason, you should notify your employer. On a case by case basis Local
539 is looking at work rules to see if temporary modifications would help to
keep members working safely.
Local 539 urge you to not go to work if you are feeling ill. We want to keep our job sites as safe as possible so that our members can work and receive their wages and benefits. If we go to work ill and contaminate our job sites, we may all be sitting home.
Our office will remain open during this time as well, but recommends calling before you come down if it is necessary. Do not hesitate to call with any questions you may have.
